DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Crop Production Management:
- Advise large-scale commercial farmers on best practices for crop production, ensuring high yields, and efficient use of resources.
 - Guide farmers on the proper selection of seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs tailored to specific crops such as wheat, maize, potatoes, soya, sugarcane, tomatoes, onions, and others.
 - Monitor and assess the health of crops through regular field visits and diagnostic assessments.
 
Pest and Disease Diagnosis:
- Conduct thorough field inspections to identify pest and disease problems in crops.
 - Provide advice on integrated pest management (IPM) techniques and offer practical solutions for managing common crop diseases and pests.
 - Support farmers in the development of effective disease management strategies.
 
Agro-Sales and Marketing Support:
- Build and maintain relationships with commercial farmers to facilitate the sale of agricultural products and services.
 - Identify opportunities for the introduction of new agricultural products or technologies to enhance crop productivity.
 - Collaborate with agro-product suppliers and distributors to ensure timely supply of inputs to farmers.
 
Training and Education:
- Provide training sessions for farmers on the latest farming techniques, technology, and crop management practices.
 - Organize field demonstrations and workshops to improve the understanding of crop management techniques.
 - Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies and share this knowledge with farmers.
 
Data Collection and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of field activities, crop conditions, pest and disease incidences, and overall farm performance.
 - Prepare detailed reports for farm management teams, agronomy departments, and clients.
 - Provide regular feedback on crop performance, growth stages, and yield potential to optimize production.
 
Collaboration and Relationship Management:
- Foster strong working relationships with farmers, suppliers, and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain.
 - Support the development of a sustainable farming approach, ensuring long-term success for clients.
 - Collaborate with other agronomists and industry professionals to address complex challenges in crop production.
 
Technical Support:
- Offer hands-on technical advice to farmers to enhance crop productivity and quality.
 - Diagnose soil deficiencies and recommend appropriate soil amendments and fertilization practices.
 - Provide post-harvest advice to ensure farmers get the best return on their produce.
 
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, or related field
 - Minimum of 5 years of experience in agronomy, agro-sales, and marketing, working with large-scale commercial farmers
 - In-depth knowledge of crop production, pest management, and soil health.
 - Strong diagnostic skills for identifying crop diseases and pests.
 - Practical experience with crop management for wheat, maize, potatoes, soya, sugarcane, tomatoes, onions, and other field crops.
 - Ability to provide practical, technical solutions to farming problems.
 - Proven track record in agro-sales and marketing.
 - Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
 - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with farmers and stakeholders.
