DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Assessment & Diagnosis
- Conduct thorough consultations by taking comprehensive patient histories and performing detailed physical examinations.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and clinical knowledge to arrive at accurate diagnoses across a range of medical conditions.
- Request and interpret laboratory tests, radiology, and other investigative results to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
Treatment & Patient Management
- Formulate and implement patient-centered treatment plans that are evidence-based and tailored to individual patient needs.
- Administer or prescribe appropriate medication, therapies, or other interventions based on diagnosis.
- Provide ongoing medical care for acute and chronic conditions, including follow-ups and management of treatment outcomes.
Emergency & Acute Care
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide immediate life-saving interventions when necessary.
- Stabilize critical patients and initiate appropriate referrals or admissions as per protocol.
- Perform minor surgical procedures (e.g., wound suturing, incision and drainage) where required.
Referrals & Specialist Coordination
- Identify cases that require specialist review and facilitate seamless referrals to consultants or external facilities.
- Collaborate with specialists and allied health professionals to ensure holistic and coordinated patient care.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate, and confidential patient records in line with the facility’s documentation standards and legal requirements.
- Generate medical reports, summaries, and discharge notes as required.
- Contribute to clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and ensure compliance with health information reporting tools.
Patient Education & Health Promotion
- Educate patients and their families about disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, medication adherence, and self-care.
- Support community health outreach programs and promote public health awareness within the facility and surrounding community.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Adhere to all clinical protocols, professional guidelines, and legal regulations governing medical practice in Kenya.
- Participate actively in quality assurance programs including infection prevention and control, clinical audits, and continuous medical education (CME).
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with nurses, clinical officers, lab technicians, and other medical staff to ensure cohesive delivery of services.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to interns, students, or junior medical staff when assigned.
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to the planning and improvement of clinical services.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Medicine from a recognized institution
- Strong clinical acumen with experience in general medicine, minor surgical procedures, and emergency care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team
- High ethical standards, professionalism, and a commitment to patient care
