DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Advisory:
- Provide legal advice to the management and other departments on all legal matters affecting the company.
- Interpret, explain, and ensure compliance with local and international laws and regulations applicable to the business.
- Advise on corporate governance, intellectual property, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
Contract Management:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure they are legally sound and protect the company’s interests.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure the terms of contracts and agreements are clearly understood and adhered to.
- Vet commercial contracts, supplier agreements, employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), partnership agreements, and other business-related documents.
Litigation and Dispute Resolution:
- Manage legal disputes involving the company, including monitoring and following up on cases in court.
- Liaise with external legal counsel when necessary, and assist in preparing legal documentation for any litigation.
- Advise on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including mediation and arbitration.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess potential legal risks and propose appropriate measures to mitigate them.
- Ensure that the company’s business operations comply with statutory and regulatory obligations.
- Assist in developing internal policies and procedures to safeguard the company against legal risks.
Corporate Governance:
- Support the company’s compliance with relevant corporate governance frameworks.
- Assist in managing and maintaining legal documentation, licenses, and statutory records.
- Ensure that the company follows ethical practices and complies with labor, environmental, and data protection laws.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure the company’s compliance with all local and international laws that impact the industry.
- Stay up-to-date with legal trends and changes in laws affecting the business.
Training and Development:
- Provide legal training and awareness programs to staff across departments on relevant legal matters, compliance procedures, and risk management.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Previous experience as a waitress in a busy environment is highly preferred
- Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB)
- Post Graduate Diploma in Law (KSL) or equivalent.
- At least 3-5 years of legal experience, preferably in a corporate or commercial environment.
- Experience in contract law, commercial litigation, and corporate governance is essential.
- Familiarity with the relevant laws in Kenya, including but not limited to, company law, labor law, and intellectual property law.
