DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Return Preparation and Filing:
- Accurately prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns in compliance with local tax laws, including VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax, and other relevant taxes.
 - Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns to avoid penalties and interest charges.
 - Coordinate and manage the filing process with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) via ITAX and ETIMS platforms.
 
Tax Advisory and Planning:
- Provide expert advice on tax matters, including tax-saving opportunities, tax planning strategies, and compliance to minimize the company's or clients' tax liabilities.
 - Analyze tax implications of company operations and advise management on the most tax-efficient structures and practices.
 - Recommend improvements in tax planning processes to optimize tax obligations while ensuring adherence to the law.
 
Tax Compliance Monitoring:
- Stay informed about changes in tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, ensuring the company always follows the latest tax policies.
 - Review financial documents and statements regularly to ensure tax compliance and assess the accuracy of tax calculations.
 - Monitor the status of tax returns and payments, ensuring that the company remains in full compliance with tax deadlines.
 
Tax Audits and Dispute Resolution:
- Support in managing tax audits by liaising with KRA officials, providing the required documentation, and addressing any queries raised during the audit process.
 - Assist in resolving any tax-related disputes or issues with tax authorities through research, negotiation, and providing necessary documentation.
 
Record-Keeping and Documentation:
- Maintain a detailed and organized filing system for all tax records, correspondence, and supporting documents related to tax filings, payments, and refunds.
 - Ensure all tax-related documents are prepared for easy retrieval in case of an audit or review.
 - Ensure accurate documentation of transactions and ensure that supporting documents (invoices, receipts, contracts, etc.) are appropriately linked to the respective tax filings.
 
ETIMS and ITAX Management:
- Regularly update and maintain accurate tax records on the ITAX and ETIMS platforms.
 - Monitor and resolve any discrepancies or issues encountered while using ITAX and ETIMS, ensuring smooth operation and timely submissions.
 - Provide training or support to other team members on the usage of ITAX and ETIMS systems for tax-related activities.
 
Tax Reporting and Financial Analysis:
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring that all tax-related provisions and adjustments are accurately reflected.
 - Review and analyze financial records to assess potential tax liabilities and provide suggestions for cost savings.
 - Prepare reports on tax liabilities, payments, refunds, and other tax-related matters for management review.
 
Tax Payments and Deadlines Management:
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of taxes to the relevant authorities to avoid penalties and maintain good standing.
 - Keep track of deadlines and payment schedules for all types of taxes to ensure no missed deadlines or late payments.
 
Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate recording of tax entries and the proper alignment of tax data with the financial statements.
 - Coordinate with other departments, such as HR and Legal, to ensure tax calculations for employee payroll, benefits, and other relevant tax-related issues are handled correctly.
 
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or a CPA qualification
 - At least 3 years of experience as a Tax Accountant or in a related field
 - Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations, especially Kenyan tax laws
 - Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar tools
 - Hands-on experience with ITAX and ETIMS systems
 - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
