DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Health Assessment and Care
- Provide direct, hands-on nursing care to male and female students across all age groups.
- Perform thorough physical assessments, including checking vital signs, evaluating symptoms, and identifying underlying health issues.
- Diagnose and manage minor illnesses and injuries within the scope of nursing practice.
Clinical Decision-Making and Treatment
- Administer appropriate treatments, including wound care, medication administration, and first aid as per school protocols.
- Use clinical judgment to determine when to escalate cases or refer students to the Doctor on duty or external medical services.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pediatric and adolescent care, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
Emergency Response and First Aid
- Provide immediate care in emergency situations such as allergic reactions, asthma attacks, injuries, fainting, and other acute conditions.
- Act as the first responder to school-related health emergencies and coordinate with ambulance services or hospitals when necessary.
Medical Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records of student visits, assessments, treatments, medications administered, and referrals.
- Ensure proper documentation aligned with medical standards and school policies.
- Health Education and Promotion
- Educate students on healthy habits, hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Collaborate with school staff on wellness campaigns and health-awareness programs tailored to student needs.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Liaise with the Doctor on duty for complex or unclear medical cases and follow up on referred cases.
- Work collaboratively with school counselors, administration, and teaching staff to support student well-being and accommodate chronic health conditions.
Supervision and Clinic Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school clinic, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and proper stock of medical supplies.
- Provide supervision or mentorship to junior nurses, interns, or auxiliary staff when assigned.
Compliance and Professional Development
- Ensure adherence to school health and safety policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuous professional development, training, and school safety drills.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution
- Valid nursing certification/license
- Minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a nurse, preferably with pediatric or school health experience
- Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills
