DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Poultry Health Management

  • Plan, implement, and oversee comprehensive flock health programs across all production stages.
  • Conduct routine flock health inspections to detect early signs of disease, stress, or poor performance.
  • Administer and supervise vaccination schedules, treatments, and preventive health protocols.
  • Investigate disease outbreaks, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Maintain accurate medical records including treatments, withdrawal periods, and mortality data.

Biosecurity & Disease Prevention

  • Design, implement, and strictly enforce farm biosecurity measures.
  • Monitor compliance with sanitation, disinfection, and movement control procedures.
  • Train staff on biosecurity risks, disease transmission, and prevention practices.
  • Ensure isolation and proper handling of sick or affected birds.

 Farm Operations & Staff Supervision

  • Supervise poultry attendants, technicians, and support staff to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Allocate daily tasks and monitor staff performance and discipline.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to improve staff skills and productivity.
  • Promote a culture of animal welfare, safety, and accountability on the farm.

Production Performance Optimization

  • Collaborate with farm management to optimize feed conversion ratios, growth rates, egg production, and overall flock performance.
  • Monitor feed and water intake and recommend adjustments where necessary.
  • Identify management gaps affecting productivity and propose practical solutions.

 Data Management & Reporting

  • Use poultry health management software to capture, analyze, and interpret flock health and production data.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly health and productivity reports.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel and other tools for trend analysis and forecasting.
  • Support data-driven decision-making by presenting actionable insights to management.

Compliance, Standards & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, animal welfare laws, and industry best practices.
  • Prepare documentation for inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date SOPs aligned with regulatory and company requirements.

Emergency Response & Risk Management

  • Respond promptly to health emergencies, disease outbreaks, or biosecurity breaches.
  • Coordinate with external veterinarians, laboratories, and suppliers when necessary.
  • Implement contingency plans to minimize losses and restore normal operations.

Continuous Improvement & Advisory Role

  • Stay updated on emerging poultry diseases, treatment methods, and production technologies.
  • Recommend improvements in housing, ventilation, nutrition, and farm layout.
  • Advise management on cost-effective strategies to improve poultry health and productivity.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health, or Animal Production.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a commercial poultry farm.
  • Strong knowledge of poultry health management and disease control.
  • Proficiency in poultry health management software.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, reporting tools).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions in a fast-paced farm environment.
