DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Machine Maintenance and Repair
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical equipment, including conveyors, mixers, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and motors.
- Inspect machinery regularly to identify wear, misalignment, lubrication issues, or potential failures.
- Carry out mechanical repairs such as bearing replacement, belt and chain adjustments, welding, and fabrication as needed.
- Ensure proper lubrication schedules are followed and maintain lubrication logs.
Installation and Commissioning
- Participate in the installation of new machines and mechanical systems, ensuring correct alignment, leveling, and secure fitting.
- Support the testing and commissioning process to confirm machines operate according to specifications.
- Collaborate with electrical and production teams during installation and setup to ensure full system functionality.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
- Conduct root cause analysis on equipment breakdowns and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Use measuring instruments and diagnostic tools (e.g., calipers, gauges, vibration meters) to identify mechanical issues.
- Respond promptly to machine breakdown calls from the production floor to minimize downtime.
Fabrication and Modification
- Perform basic machining, cutting, welding, and fabrication to create or modify machine components and supports.
- Recommend and implement mechanical improvements or upgrades to enhance machine efficiency and reliability.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and spare parts usage.
- Prepare daily and weekly maintenance reports for submission to the Maintenance Supervisor or Engineer.
- Keep updated equipment maintenance schedules and ensure all machinery is serviced as per plan.
Spare Parts and Tools Management
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of critical spare parts and mechanical tools.
- Notify the supervisor of low stock levels or parts that need replenishment.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are kept in good working condition and safely stored.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and use proper PPE during all tasks.
- Ensure lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures are followed during machine maintenance.
- Report all accidents, hazards, and near misses immediately to the safety officer or supervisor.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs as required.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of factory machinery operations, maintenance procedures, and repair techniques
- Proficiency in hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Team player with excellent communication and reporting skills
