DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform Preventive and Corrective Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections and scheduled servicing of all mechanical equipment to prevent unexpected failures.
- Follow the preventive maintenance schedule and ensure all tasks are logged with accurate service reports.
- Carry out immediate repairs of machines that break down during operation to restore them to working condition swiftly.
Troubleshoot Mechanical Faults:
- Diagnose mechanical problems using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Identify the root cause of recurring equipment issues and propose permanent corrective actions.
- Work closely with other engineers and technicians to resolve complex faults.
Install and Commission New Equipment:
- Participate in the setup, alignment, calibration, and testing of new machines or systems during installation.
- Ensure new equipment is integrated properly into the production process with minimal disruption.
- Provide feedback on the performance of newly commissioned machines and assist in their optimization.
Monitor Equipment Performance:
- Track machine performance metrics such as output rate, energy consumption, and failure frequency.
- Analyze trends and develop solutions for underperforming machines or components.
- Make suggestions for adjustments or upgrades based on performance data.
Collaborate with Other Departments:
- Work closely with production staff to understand machinery issues that affect efficiency or output quality.
- Support the quality control team by ensuring machines produce within set tolerances and standards.
- Coordinate with electrical technicians for issues requiring interdisciplinary knowledge.
Maintain Records and Documentation:
- Accurately document all maintenance activities, including repairs, parts used, and man-hours.
- Keep records of maintenance logs, machine history, and service checklists.
- Ensure documentation complies with internal and regulatory standards.
Recommend and Implement Mechanical Improvements:
- Propose changes to machine setups or systems to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.
- Lead or support small-scale improvement projects involving mechanical redesign or upgrade of machinery.
- Provide cost-benefit analysis of improvement initiatives when needed.
Ensure Compliance with Health & Safety Standards:
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements during all maintenance tasks.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards related to machinery.
- Participate in regular safety drills and contribute to risk assessments.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a busy manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
- Proven experience in working with industrial machinery such as conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, mixers, packaging machines, etc
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems and techniques
- Knowledge of safety standards and mechanical codes of practice
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems will be an added advantage
