DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Research & Analysis
- Conduct in-depth legal research on statutes, case law, regulations, and legal articles.
- Analyze and synthesize research findings to support case strategies, legal opinions, and advisory memos.
- Stay updated with recent legal developments relevant to active and prospective matters.
Drafting Legal Documents
- Prepare well-structured legal documents including contracts, pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, letters of demand, and legal opinions.
- Proofread and format documents to meet court requirements and firm standards.
- Assist in drafting client advisory notes and internal legal memoranda.
Case Management & File Handling
- Maintain organized and up-to-date physical and electronic case files.
- Track case deadlines, court dates, and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate the preparation of court bundles, exhibits, and supporting documentation.
Court and Registry Support
- File pleadings and other court documents at various registries including E-filing platforms.
- Attend court proceedings with advocates as needed to assist with file management, note-taking, and case tracking.
- Follow up on court orders, rulings, and correspondence from registries and tribunals.
Client Interaction & Communication
- Act as a liaison between the firm and clients to schedule meetings, communicate updates, and gather required documentation.
- Maintain professional and courteous communication in all client-facing interactions.
- Draft and send routine correspondence to clients, courts, and external counsel under supervision.
Administrative & Clerical Support
- Manage advocates’ calendars, schedule meetings, and ensure timely reminders for key legal events.
- Handle document filing, photocopying, scanning, and dispatching of legal documents.
- Assist in general office administrative tasks and team coordination where needed.
Team Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with advocates, partners, and other legal assistants to ensure seamless case workflow.
- Participate in internal team meetings and contribute to case strategy and planning.
- Provide support in legal training sessions, knowledge-sharing forums, and compliance checks.
Professional Development
- Proactively engage in learning opportunities to enhance legal knowledge and skills.
- Attend industry seminars, webinars, or trainings recommended by the firm.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution
- 2–3 years of experience in a reputable law firm or legal office.
- Proficient in legal research tools, MS Office Suite, and document management systems
- Strong understanding of Kenyan legal procedures, civil litigation, and contract law
- Excellent legal writing and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal and client-handling abilities
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail
