DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring punctual attendance to duty, taking into account the time in (7.30am) and time out (4.30pm) and keep record of overtime used on daily basis.
- Always uphold general discipline of workers and enforcing all the policies of the farm to the workers with no compromise.
- Induct new workers in your department into the mainstream activities relating to the company’s policies and other farm’s legislations and on the roles of certain players e.g. first aiders, health & safety committee, fire safety.
- Ensure that a hand on training is done exhaustively including work safety procedures before allocation of duties to the new workers.
- In the event of an accident or injury of a worker in your department, you’ll be required to make an injury report and submit it to the office within the same day of the accident occurrence and organize for first aid provision to the casualty with the first aiders on duty.
- Channeling the workers grievances to the manager in charge and if he/she is not available then to the office management.
- Report any situation or condition that may pose as a health hazard to the workers and ensure proper use and maintenance of the personal protective clothing provided.
- Ensure that workers us the protective clothing always provided. After the day’s spraying session ensure that the sprayers do take a bath and wash the PPEs daily with soap.
- Report any person or situation that may destabilize peace or smooth running of the company’s operations.
- Liaise with the director on how much water to irrigate and interval, EC, Ph, recipe. Etc.
- Identify all leaking valves, pipes and drip lines and have them fixed.
- Identify the dry spots in the field and have the drip line changed. Also identify wet spots and endeavor to make them drier.
- Collect soil and water samples when called upon.
- Ensure proper operation of irrigation pumps, pipes and valves in the field and report any anomalies.
- Keep records of all the irrigation rates used for future reference and report.
- Mix the fertilizer tanks as required dissolving every fertilizer thoroughly. Ensure reserve tanks are full for next day’s irrigation.
- Ensure that the reservoir dam has enough water for daily use always.
- To act in accordance with all lawful instructions of and comply with all lawful commands and directions of the Company or its duly authorized officers.
- To promote and always safeguard the interests of the Company and its business and not at any time do anything detrimental to those interests.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or a related field
- At least 5 plus years’ experience as an Irrigation Supervisor in an Agricultural farm
- Excellent communication skills especially in English.
