DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Maintenance and Repair of Heavy Equipment and Crusher Plant Systems

  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on electrical systems of heavy machinery including ballast crushing machines, generators, conveyor belts, and crusher plants to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Identify worn-out or faulty electrical components such as motors, starters, sensors, relays, and wiring, and carry out repairs or replacements promptly to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns or electrical failures, performing emergency repairs to restore equipment functionality as soon as possible.

Diagnose and Troubleshoot Electrical Issues

  • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, and PLC diagnostic software to locate electrical faults and root causes in machinery.
  • Analyze control circuits, wiring diagrams, and schematics to understand equipment design and identify malfunctioning components or wiring errors.
  • Collaborate with operators and other maintenance personnel to gather accurate information on symptoms and operational history for effective troubleshooting.

Installation, Testing, and Maintenance of Electrical Systems

  • Lead the installation of new electrical components and systems on heavy equipment and crusher plants, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and safety standards.
  • Conduct functional testing and calibration of electrical control systems, sensors, and protection devices to verify correct operation before commissioning.
  • Regularly inspect electrical panels, junction boxes, cable trays, and protective devices for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage and carry out necessary maintenance to prevent failures.

Support Mechanical Engineers in Integrated Maintenance Tasks

  • Work closely with mechanical engineers and technicians to coordinate combined electrical and mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring seamless operations of complex machinery.
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues that span both electrical and mechanical systems, such as motor-driven equipment or hydraulic-electrical interfaces.
  • Participate in maintenance planning meetings to provide insights on electrical system requirements and scheduling.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare detailed and accurate maintenance reports documenting work performed, parts replaced, and any observations on equipment condition.
  • Maintain logs of routine inspections, test results, and preventive maintenance schedules to support reliability analysis and audits.
  • Report safety incidents, near-misses, and any non-compliance issues promptly to supervisors and safety officers.

Ensure Compliance with Safety Standards

  • Adhere to company safety policies, local regulations, and international electrical safety standards while performing all electrical maintenance and installation tasks.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and implement lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Conduct risk assessments prior to maintenance activities and take proactive measures to mitigate hazards associated with electrical systems.

Inventory Management and Technical Support

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of electrical spares and tools, recommending procurement to avoid downtime due to lack of critical parts.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior technicians and apprentices, helping to develop their skills in electrical maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Stay updated with the latest electrical engineering practices, tools, and safety regulations to continuously improve maintenance quality and efficiency.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience working with heavy equipment and industrial electrical systems, preferably in crusher plants or mining environments
  • Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring, control systems, and industrial automation
  • Proven experience as a maintenance technician or electrical engineer in heavy machinery environments
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex electrical issues and implement solutions efficiently
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic work environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
