JOB SUMMARY
Our Client is seeking a Library Assistant who will be responsible for sorting and shelving books according to their categorization, assisting users with internet access, and ensuring their technical needs are met. They also manage inquiries over the counter, via email or telephone, among other duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist users in locating books and other library materials, both physically within the library and online through various databases and search engines.
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service to library patrons, answering inquiries in person, via email, and over the telephone.
- Conduct orientations for new library users, explaining library policies, services, and resources. Maintain and update user profiles in the library management system.
- Manage inquiries over the counter and via email or telephone, addressing patron needs efficiently and professionally.
- Assist with library events/programs and reading sessions, including setup, logistics, and participant support.
- Settle any disruptions or disturbances in the library, addressing disciplinary matters with tact and discretion.
- Check books and other materials in and out using the library's circulation system.
- Sort and shelve books and other materials accurately according to established classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal System, Library of Congress).
- Inspect the condition of books and other materials before and after check-out, documenting any damage on behalf of the user. Organize the repair of damaged books and other materials.
- Re-evaluate the database of book entries for new arrivals before shelving, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Catalogue audio-visual material and other non-print mediums, following established cataloging standards.
- Collect and manage the electronic payment of fines for overdue materials.
- Provide monthly analytical reports of circulation services, including usage statistics and administrative data.
- Maintain accurate records of library transactions and user information.
- Assist with other administrative tasks as assigned by the Library Manager/Supervisor.
- Knowledge of library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal System, Library of Congress) is a plus.
- Ability to lift and carry books and other library materials.
- Passion for books, reading, and learning.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree or diploma in records management or related
- 2 years experience in a school set up
- Good people and planning skills
- Proficiency of Arabic language is an added advantage
