DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy aligned with overall company goals.
  • Lead the commercial team across sales, marketing, trade marketing, and business development.
  • Provide strategic input to senior management to influence overall business direction.

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Set and deliver revenue and margin targets across all business channels (General Trade, Modern Trade, Export).
  • Identify growth opportunities in local and international markets.
  • Oversee negotiations with key distributors, retailers, and international clients.

Trade Channel Management

  • Drive performance in General Trade by optimizing distribution networks, pricing strategies, and customer relationship management.
  • Manage Modern Trade partnerships with key retail chains and supermarkets to enhance product visibility and penetration.
  • Oversee Export Operations, identifying new markets and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations.

Team Development & Leadership

  • Build and mentor a high-performing commercial team.
  • Set clear KPIs and performance goals for the commercial department.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Market Intelligence & Product Strategy

  • Conduct regular market analysis to understand consumer trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities.
  • Collaborate with product development and marketing teams to ensure alignment of commercial goals with product innovation and promotional strategies.
  • Financial Management
  • Monitor and control budgets, ensuring cost efficiency in commercial operations.
  • Work with finance teams to develop sales forecasts, pricing models, and profitability analysis.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field; a Master’s Degree is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in commercial leadership roles within the FMCG industry
  • Proven success in managing General Trade, Modern Trade, and Export Channels
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan and regional markets, with an established network in the retail and wholesale sectors
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities
