JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making with financial insights. The role demands a hands-on professional with strong business acumen, analytical skills, and experience in a fast-paced FMCG or manufacturing environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely financial records in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Perform monthly reconciliations (bank, supplier, customer, intercompany).
- Supervise general ledger activities and ensure entries are properly coded and posted.
- Coordinate the monthly and year-end close process.
Cost & Inventory Accounting
- Monitor and manage inventory accounting processes, including costing, stock reconciliations, and variances.
- Work closely with the production and warehouse teams to ensure accurate stock valuations and reports.
- Analyze cost of goods sold (COGS) and margin performance.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure tax compliance (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, Corporate Tax, Excise Duty, etc.) and timely submission of returns.
- Liaise with auditors (internal and external) during audits and provide necessary support and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and company policies.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Monitor cash flow and manage liquidity to support daily operations and working capital needs.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and coordinate with banks for payments and facilities.
Team Leadership & Support
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff and ensure accuracy and timeliness in daily accounting functions.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and financial discipline across departments.
Business & Strategic Support
- Provide financial insights to support strategic decisions and improve operational efficiency.
- Participate in budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Collaborate with operations, sales, and procurement teams to align financial goals with business strategy.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field & CPA (K)
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role
- Prior experience in the FMCG, manufacturing, or distribution sectors is highly preferred
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, ERP systems)
- Strong Excel skills and ability to handle complex financial models and reconciliations
