JOB SUMMARY

To provide overall leadership to the security team and ensure the safety and security of all organization’s staff and assets according to the set Standard Operating Procedures, ethics and professional standards/ requirements.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with all the day to day security activities with responsibility for supervising your team.
  • Supervise and oversee security functions in the organization.
  • Train and schedule programs and functions to security personnel.
  • Initiate disciplinary measures wherever necessary.
  • Assist with ensuring that the organization meets all agreed security and associated health and safety objectives
  • Assist with responsibility for monitoring & managing security systems and equipment servicing and/or maintenance in conjunction with other appropriate departments.
  • Assist with managing the performance of the security team and its individual members.
  • Develop and implement preventative measures against accidents, thefts and other risks.
  • Assist with effective liaison, support and assistance between security department and remainder of organization
  • Maintain and improve mechanisms for risk assessment and disseminate feedback to the appropriate internal entities
  • Assist with developing plans for security activities
  • Support to all other departments with security related issues
  • Subject to agreed criteria, recruitment, training, set action and targets, appraise and manage performance, development, coaching and general support of all team members to ensure targets are met
  • Reporting (content and format as agreed) on a monthly basis or as otherwise required
  • Assist all team members as necessary.
  • Delegate authority and responsibility to team with supervision, accountability and review
  • Set an example for team members of commitment, security knowledge, work ethics and habits and personal character
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Control expenses to comply with budgetary controls
  • Adhere to all organization policies and procedures
  • Interact and co-operate with all members of the organization, its suppliers and clients/customers
  • From time to time, you may be expected to be part of special projects as are reasonably required of your job role.
  • You must contribute towards the smooth running of the organization generally. However, because of the nature of the job you may be required to perform some shift work (such as 12 Hour shifts including days, nights and weekends on a Rota basis) and you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team and your targets.
  • The role is part of the whole organization team and as such requires you to perform such reasonable tasks that are required, as and when necessary, to maintain, promote, develop and expand the vison and mission of our organization and its interests generally.
  • You must carry out your duties to the best of your ability, having consideration for the needs of your colleagues, the organization and its children, clients/customers. You must obey all lawful and reasonable orders given to you and comply with the organization’s rules, procedures and policies
  • You have responsibility for allocated team members who will all report directly to you
  • You are responsible for the equipment provided to you for use in your job role and to your team. This means you must ensure that equipment is used in accordance with training provided, the organization’s policies and procedures and the law and using, where applicable, any safety equipment or Personal Protective Equipment provided. You are responsible for ensuring that the equipment used by the team is maintained and can be used/operated at all times.
  • Monitoring people in different locations to identify instances of suspicious or unusual behaviour.
  • Tracking suspect individuals as they move within a building or through a network of streets.
  • Liaising with security staff or police on the ground to provide detailed intelligence about suspects, such as their appearance, actions, or location.
  • Ensuring the CCTV system is fully functioning, and that video footage is recorded and stored appropriately.
  • Assisting police in their enquiries by providing access to CCTV recordings, or copies of footage, whenever required.
  • Preparation and submission of reports to management of daily surveillance activity and security status and important occurrences.
  • Ensuring the company complies with national regulations especially in areas like privacy, health and safety.
  • Collaborating with the Facility manager by supervising motor vehicles parking to ensure every area is accessible in case of emergencies.
  • Training staff in security awareness measures such as how to respond to FIRE Marshals, FIRST AID situation and other emergencies.
  • Conducting risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities in the work place and proposing to maintain security measures to mitigate them.
  • Reviewing physical security measures including such as locks, gates, and fences and lighting to ensure they are adequate.
  • Overseeing the physical company assets including supervising security guards and monitoring employee behaviors.
  • Coordinate with other departments to identify potential threats and implement solutions, ensure relevant staff wear the required clean PPE’s at all time.
  • Any other duty assigned by the immediate supervisor.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Degree or Diploma in Criminology and security management, or related field from a recognized institution
  • 3-5 years of experience in security management, law enforcement, with a strong understanding of security principles and practices, two of which must be in a supervisory level
  • A First Aid Certificate from a recognized institution
  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police
  • Membership of relevant security professional body is an added advantage
  • Excellent surveillance, observation skills and interpersonal skills
  • In-depth knowledge of security technologies, incident management software and such as access control systems and CCTV surveillance
  • Adept in office systems software and equipment including MS Office computer literacy
  • Excellent communication skills and Report Writing skills
