DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct physical, chemical, and microbiological tests on raw materials, packaging, in-process, and finished products.
- Carry out routine sampling and ensure products meet set specifications before release.
- Document and escalate any deviations or non-conformities for corrective action.
- Ensure strict adherence to ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP, and other relevant standards.
- Liaise with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and other regulatory bodies to ensure products meet mandatory standards.
- Facilitate product certification and re-certification processes with KEBS and other statutory agencies.
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of ISO certification programs.
- Prepare and maintain quality documentation for internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements under the Public Health Act, OSHA, and Kenya Food, Drugs and Chemical Substances Act.
- Monitor production processes to ensure compliance with quality and safety requirements.
- Conduct root cause analyses and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
- Contribute to risk assessments and ensure mitigation measures are implemented.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, test reports, and certificates of analysis.
- Prepare weekly and monthly quality reports for management review.
- Investigate and document customer complaints, providing feedback to management.
- Drive initiatives to improve product quality and reduce rejections/wastage.
- Train production staff on quality standards, hygiene, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across all departments.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Degree in Food Science, Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field
- 3–5 years’ experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control in FMCG, food processing, or manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of ISO Certification Processes, KEBS requirements, HACCP, and GMP
- Experience in handling audits and certification programs with KEBS and regulatory authorities
- Excellent knowledge of Kenyan quality standards and statutory requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and report-writing ability.
