DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Internal Communication Support

  • Serve as the primary translator between Chinese-speaking supervisors/management and English-speaking employees (and vice versa).
  • Attend daily meetings, discussions, or briefings and provide real-time interpretation.
  • Translate internal documents, memos, and notices to ensure consistent understanding across language barriers.
  • Assist in resolving misunderstandings that may arise from cultural or language differences in the workplace.

External Communication & Coordination

  • Handle communication with service providers such as mobile money/paybill services (e.g., Safaricom, M-Pesa).
  • Coordinate with internet service providers for installations, troubleshooting, or renewals.
  • Communicate with landlords, agents, or property managers regarding lease agreements, rent payments, repairs, and utility matters.
  • Represent the company when interacting with local government agencies, banks, or suppliers as needed, translating documents or conversations clearly.

Translation & Documentation

  • Translate contracts, emails, letters, company policies, and technical documents between Chinese and English with accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
  • Maintain and update bilingual versions of essential documentation.
  • Proofread and edit translations to ensure clarity, tone, and accuracy.

Cultural Mediation

  • Bridge cultural gaps between Chinese and Kenyan employees, helping both sides understand workplace norms, etiquette, and expectations.
  • Educate team members on language nuances and respectful communication practices.

 

Administrative & General Support

  • Assist with scheduling, appointments, and logistics for Chinese-speaking visitors or staff.
  • Provide general administrative support to the operations or HR departments as needed.
  • Assist in onboarding new Chinese-speaking staff by helping them understand local company policies and procedures.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Fluency in both Chinese (Mandarin) and English – written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to convey complex and technical information clearly
  • Experience in translation or interpretation is an added advantage
