DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare ingredients and cook meals according to standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
 - Ensure food is cooked and served in a timely manner while maintaining taste and quality.
 - Adjust cooking methods and ingredients to accommodate customer preferences and dietary needs.
 
Menu Support & Kitchen Planning
- Support the Head Chef or Kitchen Supervisor in menu planning and daily kitchen operations.
 - Suggest new dishes or improve existing ones based on feedback and kitchen trends.
 - Assist in creating prep lists and coordinating daily meal preparation timelines.
 
Kitchen Hygiene & Safety
- Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized kitchen environment at all times.
 - Follow proper food handling procedures and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
 - Regularly clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and food prep areas.
 
Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and notify supervisors of shortages in a timely manner.
 - Assist with receiving deliveries and ensuring proper storage of supplies.
 - Reduce food waste by following portion control guidelines and using ingredients efficiently.
 
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.
 - Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to coordinate orders and special requests.
 - Be proactive in offering support to colleagues during busy periods or shift changes.
 
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Proven experience as a cook or junior chef in a professional kitchen
 - Strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen tools, and cooking techniques
 - Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
 - Team player with excellent communication skills
 - Basic knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen hygiene practices
 - Experience with continental or African dishes is a strong advantage.
