DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare, review, and maintain accurate books of accounts, including journals, ledgers, and trial balances.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Reconcile bank statements, tenant accounts, supplier accounts, and general ledger balances.
- Monitor and manage cash flows to ensure adequate liquidity for operational needs.
Real Estate Accounting
- Manage rental income accounting, including invoicing, receipting, and reconciliation of tenant payments.
- Track and account for service charge collections and expenditures.
- Maintain accurate records for property-related expenses, repairs, and maintenance costs.
- Support property managers with financial reports related to individual properties or portfolios.
Statutory Compliance & Taxation
- Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and Corporation Tax.
- Prepare and file tax returns through iTax accurately and within deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with eTIMS requirements, including proper invoicing and reporting.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities as required.
Budgeting & Controls
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and highlight variances with recommendations.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and minimize risk.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Utilize accounting software efficiently for transaction processing and reporting.
- Maintain proper documentation and filing systems for financial records.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and enhance efficiency.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA Part 4 (or equivalent) – mandatory.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Accountant, preferably in the real estate industry.
- Proven experience in invoicing, iTax, and eTIMS.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Solid understanding of Kenyan tax laws and statutory requirements.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
